Before you were even born, daddy and I were told during birthing classes that tummy time with parents is very important. We may have gone overboard on the tummy time because you HATE sleeping on your back and absolutely refuse to sleep in your crib!! You're a smart little cookie because I will let you fall asleep on my chest, but the minute I walk you to the crib, you wake up and cry!!!
Although we were told that tummy time is important, you're not allowed to sleep on your tummy - it's actually a rule!!! BACK IS BEST is even printed on some gowns and swaddling blankets. When daddy and I were babies, tummy was best. If only we could let you sleep on your belly, I know you'd sleep in your crib!!
Your grandmother (my mommy) went out and bought a bassinet and a wedge tonight. We're going to try putting the bassinet in our room to see if that helps - maybe knowing that we're right there will help you sleep. Also, we're going to try the wedge because I don't think you like to sleep perfectly flat.
On a different note...I am really noticing some GREAT cognitive changes. You're better able to focus on faces, and actually smiled a few times (not while sleeping) while looking at me!! Warmed my heart!!!!
Sweet dreams, Hailey!! :)

Two & a Half Wks Old!!!
You are just about 2.5 wks old right now. Although you can't talk, you're quite "vocal." Daddy and I are trying really hard to figure out what you want when you cry, but it's so hard. We can't wait for you to talk...or can we???
You're definitely growing...Mommy thinks we may need to switch into the size 1 diapers!
Your Aunt Heather is visiting right now and has been very helpful.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTN9WYPPBzfmS8Gd0FUxti-KeDdz2Qhd4_5f2nJTYl0Pfn6dzGGktLVMja4y7-lNG3dU-U1EPnhLZ3JHPFHKAuGM8L1WPAqvQtyWy0Lx08UP11Qtc5YG_7-W4l83GiRa43LgOtfRHr6S4/s200/hailey+and+aunt+heather.bmp)
She loves to hold you, and has occasionally gone on "baby watch" during the night so we can get some sleep. :)
Uncle Jared and Aunt Margo are visiting this weekend!

Today you are 2 wks old!!
Today you are 2 wks old - Happy Birthday, Hailey!!!
Daddy and I can't believe that you're already 2 wks old. Two wks ago tonight, you were born!!!! Time is flying - hoping it will slow down soon. We don't want you to grow up too soon!!
Your grandmother (my mommy) watched you tonight while daddy and I went on a "date." We missed you so much. While waiting for the movie to start, we were looking at pictures of you on our phones.
Sleep well (please!!!), Hailey!

If only you could talk...
We're still on a hunt for the right formula. At your doctors appt on 3/22/10, Dr. Warner suggested that we try Similac Sensitive for fussiness and gas. She also suggested that we try Mylicon drops to help settle your tummy! So far we have tried this, but I'm not convinced that it is helping.
It's very frustrating to not be able to help you. I love you this small, but if only you could talk, and tell us what was wrong.
We are hopeful that in a few days, your tummy will start to settle down. Until then, we will continue with the Similac and Mylicon drops.
Feel better, my love!!!!

First Doctors Appt - 3/22/10
Date: March 22, 2010
Time: 11:45 am
Today you are 10 days old! Daddy and I took you to your first doctor's appt with Dr. Warner at Union Pediatrics. After having lost a few ounces over the course of the past 10 days, you weighed in at a whopping 7lbs 5 oz, and have grown in length to 20.25 inches! I cannot believe how much you've grown. Still to this day, you fit perfectly curled up on our shoulders. If only you could stay this small forever...![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdIohdbBLXiEWN0F6QapuklSfIRxQQgGyDahsRwIbPLnOBSLZtVLzLgQu-8TWpMxKH1eAu9weIZP9g9EUhAmhXBg4WeMBWDNUPhbqdZTJ0j2Ri9qmUVjiaAMveNXE5WKYMHwcL0f_X5ho/s200/1st+doctors+appt.bmp)
Your umbilical cord fell off a few days after leaving the hospital, however; it seemed to have been irritated possibly by clothes. Dr. Warner put a little Silver Nitrate on it to help it heal. We're going to try a Lactose-Free formula to supplement your feeding, as you have been a little fussy (and gassy!!)
Your next doctor's appt is April 14, 2010 at 9:00 am - you'll be 1 month old!!!!

"Early Bird Special - Hailey Elana makes her debut"
Date: March 12, 2010
Time: 8:02 pm
After 38wks and 6 days, you decided to grace the world with your presence. Daddy and I are so excited that you are finally here!!
The day you were born was quite unexpected. I had a scheduled doctor's appt at 9:40am, however; when I woke up that day, my water had already started to break. When we arrived at the doctor's office, I was told to go to the hospital. Already prepared, we unloaded our stuff and "checked into" Rm. 1314 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY.
My labor was progressing, however; Dr. Woeste, my doctor, administered Pitocin to speed up the labor and delivery process. The Pitocin definitely hurried things up, as you were delivered after a few quick pushes at 8:02 pm. You were perfect - 10 little fingers and 10 little toes. You weighed 6lbs 14oz and were 19.5 inches long. You had QUITE a head full of hair - it was a light shade of brown with natural, blonde highlights. Your eyes were a grayish blue color, and you had 2 big dimples (just like me!)![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVtC_ELUHDJ7LxZCxaVxoSU9zR6Z6dzke3TImBCgyTzGvUBmDIppjFNVqsmDERUFwrNjJV3DUWaEVfB5SitsFUDBxWyW6W7ZuA7SfZvSlIHFIWzXom_bwc811Gy1sPd7bYtj3Pm6-T_6o/s200/hailey+arrivces.bmp)
All of your grandparents were there to see you. My parents were driving so quickly to see you that they got a speeding ticket!! Your Uncle Max and Aunt Kinneret drove in to see you that night, as well. Uncle Jared, Aunt Margo and Aunt Heather were not able to come the night you were born, but plan to visit you very soon!!
We stayed at the hospital until March 14, 2010 before being discharged home. Over the course of the next few days, many of our friends came to see you. Everyone kept saying how beautiful you were, including some nurses who kept coming into the room just to see your smiling face.
On March 14, 2010, around 3:30 pm, we drove you home. Daddy drove SO slowly, but that's because we had precious cargo - YOU!! We were so excited to introduce you to your "big sister," Honey. As expected, Honey loved you. She kept going up to you, sniffing your face, and giving you lots of kisses. Honey is very protective of you, and whenever you cry, she runs from wherever she is to make sure you're okay.
Hailey, we are so blessed that you are here! We love you more than words can describe.
All our love,
Mommy and Daddy
